Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is the pingRX Pro?

The uAvionix pingRX Pro is a professional-grade, dual-band (978 MHz UAT + 1090 MHz ES) ADS-B receiver designed specifically for drones/UAS. At only 8 grams and housed in a rugged aluminum case, it delivers real-time traffic awareness by detecting and identifying nearby ADS-B-equipped aircraft, then seamlessly forwarding their position data via MAVLink to ArduPilot/Pixhawk-based autopilots and ground-station software. With its detachable remote-mount antenna, proven aviation-certified receiver technology (the same used in over half a million certified ADS-B installations worldwide), and simple plug-and-play integration, the pingRX Pro gives commercial and public-safety drone operators a lightweight, reliable “see-and-avoid” tool to enhance situational awareness and fly safer in shared airspace.

We need to have a means of validating the firmware version that these devices are on and ability to upgrade them if necessary.

We do not provide field update instructions for the pingRX Pro. All pingRX Pros are sent out with the same firmware.

I cannot find the user/install manual for the pingRX Pro.

The pingRX Pro is a fairly simple setup so we put together a quick start guide and provide the uAvionix MAVLink OEM Protocol ICD to supplement this.

Is there a way to limit data received based on altitude?

Data can be filtered based on radius and altitude through your autopilot settings.

Can the performance of the pingRX Pro be degraded by flying over water?

No, flying over water should have no impact on performance of the pingRX Pro. However, there may be issues if the aircraft transmitting ADS-B is flying over water.

Is the MTL sensitivity (-84dB) conductive sensitivity or does it include the antenna gain?
