Continuing 100% On-Time Performance Record, Six Airports Equipped and Operational Within 90 Days—RIC and CHS in Just 69 Days

Leesburg, VA – 30 July, 2025uAvionix Corporation today announced the successful completion and operational status of six new airports under the FAA’s Surface Awareness Initiative (SAI), bringing the total number of SAI airports equipped by uAvionix to 14. The newly deployed airports were installed, tested, and made fully operational within just 90 days, demonstrating exceptional efficiency.

  • Richmond International Airport (RIC)
  • Norfolk International Airport (ORF)
  • Pensacola International Airport (PNS)
  • Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW)
  • Charleston International Airport (CHS)
  • Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport (SAV)

uAvionix achieved operational readiness in only 69 days at RIC and CHS.

Each of the airports is now equipped with uAvionix’s advanced FlightLine suite, a critical component of enhanced situational awareness for airport surface operations. Central to these deployments is the uAvionix VTU-20 Vehicle Movement Area Transmitter (VMAT), which provides continuous ADS-B position reporting from vehicles operating on the airport surface, significantly increasing operational safety and efficiency. In May 2025, the FAA issued a CertAlert recommending expanded use of ADS-B vehicle transmitters such as the VTU-20 to improve airport surface safety.

These successful deployments directly support the U.S. Department of Transportation’s broader initiative to modernize national air traffic infrastructure through the development of a Brand New Air Traffic Control System (BNATCS). BNATCS aims to expand similar advanced situational awareness technologies to approximately 200 additional airports nationwide, strengthening air traffic safety and operational reliability across the U.S.

“This latest milestone demonstrates our commitment to rapid, efficient deployment and operational excellence,” said Jon Damush, CEO of uAvionix. “Our innovative solutions, such as FlightLine and the VTU-20 VMAT, are critical to modernizing air traffic infrastructure and enhancing airport surface safety nationwide. We’re proud to maintain our flawless on-time delivery record, supporting the FAA’s vision for safer, more efficient air travel.”

Looking ahead, uAvionix will continue to collaborate closely with the FAA as the Surface Awareness Initiative and BNATCS expand, further reinforcing the safety, capacity, and efficiency of airports across the country.
