Bigfork, MT 8 August 2023 – uAvionix Corporation, the leading provider of low SWaP avionics and Command Navigation and Surveillance (CNS) systems for crewed and uncrewed aircraft, today announced the availability of the FAA certified skySensor TSO ADS-B transceiver for certified aircraft.  The approval expands the availability of the skySensor product beyond experimental aircraft and brings far more than an aesthetic wingtip match to current uAvionix skyBeacon owners. With an included dual-band ADS-B receiver and WiFi capability, the skySensor TSO quickly connects the cockpit and pilot to critical traffic and weather for improved flight safety and pilot awareness.

“skySensor is the perfect wingtip match for SkyBeacon owners, but we wanted to deliver more than just a LED light for the right wingtip,” notes uAvionix Managing Director Ryan Braun. “The skySensor TSO connects the cockpit to high value weather data and ADS-B traffic information through existing displays such as the AV-30-C or a pilot’s Electronic Flight Bag (EFB). Receiving the FAA authorization marks another milestone in uAvionix’s steady delivery of innovative avionics and allows owners of certified aircraft to take advantage of skySenor TSO’s capabilities.  It truly is much more than a matching LED and position strobe light.”

The skySensor TSO receives dual-band ADS-B traffic and subscription-free in-flight weather information on both 978 MHz and 1090 MHz.  The information is then delivered via WiFi to EFB’s supporting the GDL 90 protocol including ForeFlight Mobile, FltPlan Go, FlyQ, Wing X, and others. The built-in GPS position and barometric altimeter provide the EFB with positioning and barometric altitude data used for accurate depiction of the relative positions and altitudes of nearby traffic. Real-time display of traffic information will soon also be available on the uAvionix AV-30-C through the AV-Link accessory.  The high efficiency LED position light in aviation green and included GPS, ADS-B IN and WiFi functions consume one-eighth the power of traditional incandescent bulbs while delivering enhanced situation awareness and safety for pilots.

The skySensor TSO is available through uAvionix and its resellers for $750 USD and the certified product will begin shipping in September 2023.  To learn more about the skySensor TSO and uAvionix’s other products for the connected cockpit, visit: https://uavionix.com/product/skysensor-tso/.
